Say Hello to Bently

 

 

One day I noticed that my boy Bently was walking with a bit of a lean to the left and always wanting water.  So I took him to the vet and they found nothing obvious.  The vet started him on antibiotics thinking he had a possible inner ear infection.  After a couple of days Bently had a seizure.  I don't wish that experience on anybody.  After some extensive blood work and imaging tests with specialists it was determined Bently had Pituitary Cushings.  

 

This condition was caused by a benign tumor on the Pituitary Gland causing a hormone problem making him want water excessively.  The tumor also was pushing on a part of his brain making him lean to the left while he walked.  We started him on medication to treat the Cushings and Radiation treatment to shrink the tumor to help with his ability to walk.  

 

After the course of radiation Bently was walking normally.  Throughout this whole experience I was so thankfull that I had pet insurance to help cover some of the costs.  Without pet insurance I would have had to make a horrible decision after the diagnosis.  

 

No one should be forced to make the heartbreaking decision to put down their pet after diagnosis based on the cost.
